Re: Request for Investigation of Facebook's App Economy

I write to urge you to investigate Facebook's App Economy for violations of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTCA) and the California Unfair Competition Law (UCL). Facebook has engaged in a repeated pattern of using unfair and deceptive business practices in Facebook Platform, the operating system it launched in May 2007. For many years, Facebook has taken advantage of the fact that it exclusively makes and monitors the rules of a game in which it is also one of the largest players. Facebook has used this advantage to seed and then monopolize markets to the detriment of businesses and consumers.

My business is one of the many that has been impacted by this anti-competitive behavior. This type of behavior is regulated and prevented in virtually every other industry. It is high time that our legal and regulatory frameworks, which are designed to promote fairness and competition, catch up to this new and innovative economy and subject it to the same rule of law as every other industry in the world.
